Zilker Park

Zilker Park
Zilker Park is without a doubt one of the most beloved and well-known spots in Austin. Aside from the regular day to day dog park, picnics, and sports matches held at the park, there are also so many events that occur at Zilker. Between ACL, the Trail of Lights, and Blues on the Green, there is almost always something going on at this coveted park.

ACL is a musical festival hosted every October in Zilker Park. The festival occurs on two consecutive three-day long weekends. It has over 150 acts and half a million attendees. There are several different stages, many unique different types of food to try, and nearly every music genre such as rock, hip-hop, alternative, electronic, indie, and so many more.

Blues on the Green is an event hosted monthly every summer in Zilker Park. The event is put on by local radio station KGSR and is free to the public. People of all ages come to Blues on the Greens to hang out and listen to live music. Past performers have included Gary Clark Jr., Los Lonely Boys, Bob Schneider, Old 97’s, and many others. Feel free to bring a blanket or lawn chairs to sit on, bug spray, a cooler, or dogs to this family-friendly event!

Lady Bird Lake is a coveted part of Zilker Park. It is operated by the City of Austin and expands across 416 acres in downtown Austin. The lake is frequently used for outdoor activities such as kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboarding. It is also connected to the Lady Bird Lake Hike and Bike Trails which are very popular for walking dogs on or going for runs. The lake is also frequently used for fishing or guided boat tours.

In addition to these events and the lake, Zilker Park is open every day to the public. People oftentimes take their dogs there to play and run around, go on picnics, play a game of volleyball in the sand courts, or play other sports such as soccer. All of these activities can be done while enjoying the view of the downtown Austin skyline in the background.
